A hollow, conducting sphere with a small hole in its top is electrostatically charged using a dielectric rod rubbed with fur. One can show with an electroscope that a conductor brought in contact with the inside of the sphere will not acquire a charge but will acquire charge if touched to the outside of the sphere.
