1. Clean the insulating support stand with methanol to remove conducting materials.
2. Rub the dielectric rod with fur.
3. Touch the charged rod to the conducting sphere, being sure to bring as much rod surface into contact as is practical. Re-charge the rod and sphere if necessary.
4. Bring the charged sphere near an electroscope to show the sphere has been charged.
5. Press the conducting hemi-spheres onto the outer surface of the charged sphere.
6. Use the electroscope to show the charge has moved off the sphere and onto the hemi-spheres.
