Gaussian Distribution Machine

----------

A large number of balls is allowed to fall down through an array of pegs and into a series of bins. The heights of balls collected in the bins roughly show the shape of a Gaussian distribution.

Irreversible Mixing Marbles

Two groups of marbles of different color are separated by a partition in a tray. When the partition is removed and the tray is shaken, the marbles become irreversibly mixed.

Kinetic Theory Apparatus

Plastic balls are enclosed in a cylindrical chamber by a freely moving counter balanced piston. A variable motor driven impeller at the base of the cylindrical chamber is used to excite the balls, thus exerting pressure on the piston. The apparatus has a built in high frequency induction coil used to eliminate electrostatic charges through the ionization of the enclosed air.

Kinetic Theory Projection Apparatus

A number of ball bearings enclosed in a transparent box are driven in two dimensions by a variable-speed mechanical agitator. An overhead projector is used to project shadow images of the balls in motion providing a qualitative sense of the distribution of velocities.
